MilkDrop

“Southside” by MilkDrop:

The Soul Providers crew drops mix tapes like Philly bakes Tastykakes, and the latest treat comes from recent Vegas transplant MilkDrop. In the grand tradition, the bedrock for this tape is composed of original beats by Reach and Awe, among others, as well as classic instrumentals such as “Shook Ones Pt. 2.” The selections are nearly flawless, but the recording levels on the verses sometimes seem off, mostly on tracks featuring more than one MC. Not that such a blemish could detract from MilkDrop’s grizzled, raspy flow. He chases the beat, toys with it, gets behind it and pulls ahead, with the real payoffs coming on solo tracks “Popping Off,” “Killing Spree” and the Sesame Street-jacking “B-Boy.” Milk D might be chilling, but MilkDrop is medicating heads daily.
