Miike Snow at RecordBar

REVIEW

The masks made Miike Snow look creepier than it sounded Thursday night at a sold-out RecordBar. Which isn’t to say that the Stockholm, Sweden, production duo Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, also known as Bloodsy and Avant — who teamed up with American songwriter Andrew Wyatt in 2007 — failed to shake the ground with their synth-pop explosions.

Judging by the graphics on Miike Snow’s Web site, I expected its live performance to combine the organization of hardcore with the eeriness of Johnny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood. Then again, the beats-heavy single “Animal” showed up on Gossip Girl, suggesting something closer to Animal Collective. I was pretty excited for the concert, but I was hoping for a sound far from imitation Animal Collective.
