Michael Mikkelsen, DUI checkpoint protester, banned from Occupy KC encampment over allegations of sexual impropriety

  • Michael Mikkelsen is no longer welcome at the Occupy KC site.

During Occupy Kansas City’s Monday general assembly meeting, a proposal was raised to cut ties with movement organizer Michael Mikkelsen over alleged instances of inappropriate and criminal behavior toward women. Mikkelsen was the central character of a November Pitch feature about protesting DUI checkpoints on area roads. The piece mentioned that Mikkelsen is facing first-degree sexual-assault charges in Columbia after a woman told police she awoke in her bed with Mikkelsen on top of her and having sex with her.

Recently a website launched with people outlining other allegations against Mikkelsen. The site claims that he has a history of stalking and harassing women. It appears that the only criminal charges he is facing are in Columbia. Occupy KC released a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying that the movement reached a consensus to bar Mikkelsen from having further contact with the group. Last week Mikkelsen was part of Occupy KC’s contingent that went to Washington, D.C., to be part of a mass “99 In DC” protest gathering.

Mikkelsen didn’t return a request for comment Tuesday evening from The Pitch.
