MEANS OF PRODUCTION

Encouraging communication, collaboration and the sharing of resources, the newly launched nonprofit CinemaKC endeavors to become a real-world — and virtual — hub for filmmakers and film organizations. An initiative of the Film Society of Greater Kansas City, which also aims to recognize the achievements of area filmmakers, CinemaKC debuts its film program at 7:30 p.m. at the Screenland Crown Center (2450 Grand, third floor,
816-545-8034). Preceded by an industry mixer at 6:30, the event features a screening of the Student Academy Award-winning animated short Dried Up, produced by Kansas City Art Institute students Jeremy Casper, Stuart Bury and Isaiah Powers, plus a look at the “faux reality web series” Next! (winner in the Comedic Webisode category at this summer’s LATV Fest), with director Heather Laird and producers Teri Rogers and Nicholas Vedros in attendance. Admission costs $5. For more information, call 816-979-1745, see cinemakc.org or search CinemaKC on Facebook.
