Mayor Mark Funkhouser loves him some red-light cameras

Kansas City’s oversized novelty Mayor Mark Funkhouser is throwing his support behind the red-light cameras. This isn’t going to sit well with frequent camera critics in the Liberty Restoration Project.

Funkhouser will once again announce his love for the cameras at a media conference scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today in the mayor’s office at City Hall.

“Kansas City’s red light safety camera program has been successful in reducing the number red light runners and in increasing safety. We have reduced both the number of tickets issued and the number of accidents at the intersections where red light cameras are installed, ” Funkhouser said in a statement released this morning. “From a public safety perspective these cameras are a resounding success. I would ask the Missouri House to leave this effective program alone.”
