Mayday, Mayday

The Slap-n-Tickle Gallery (504 East 18th Street, 816-716-5940) got off to a rough start last summer when its co-founder Mott-ly died shortly before the gallery opened. And things have gotten worse: The gallery faces eviction if it doesn’t come up with $1,000 in past-due utility bills. The solution is an art auction to raise money. If the Slap-n-Tickle’s previous exhibits are any indication, the auction should be a wild ride. Mott-ly’s gallery partner, Apryl McAnerney, has kept his wild spirit alive with erotic art shows, burlesque performances and a busy calendar of exhibitions that favor up-and-coming fringe artists. “We like to have a lot of reasons for people to come see us,” McAnerney says. The Slap-n-Tickle will hold an auction preview from 6 to 9 tonight.
