Maxwell and Mary J. Blige
Maxwell and Mary J. Blige are calling their co-headlining run the “King and Queen of Hearts Tour,” and that name seems apt. Of course, Maxwell and Blige rule hearts in different ways. The former is a neo-soul singer with a voice that is all silk and warm honey; his fans melt at the sound. The latter is a fearsome powerhouse who is at her best when her own heart is a little worse for wear. And it happens that Blige is coming out the other side of a well-publicized split from her husband (and manager) of over a decade, so her recent Strength of a Woman is a little heartbreaking. Monday at the Sprint Center, watch in awe as these two join their formidable forces.

The award-winning pianist and junior-grade Father Christmas appears with the Kansas City Symphony on Friday, just in time to warm your cold, gray heart with his lush arrangements of classic carols. It’s just the kind of show that can hold the attention of family members from multiple generations.

Chip Davis has been at this whole holiday-cheer thing longer than most people have had careers. This year marks the 32nd anniversary of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, the combination of classical and new-age rock that is Davis’ true legacy. In concert, his Mannheim Steamroller Christmas is quite the experience: visual effects, seasonal decorations, extravagant lighting, orchestra. Once you’re in its grasp, it’s almost impossible to resist.
