Max Justus doesn’t sleep. Maybe he sneaks naps between bouts of cranking out dense electro tracks in his basement studio, but he probably has a hard time shutting his eyes when there are a million little keyboard parts fluttering around in his head. In the past year, Justus (real name: Spransy) has sprung onto the national blog scene, thanks to his heavily traded remixes of eight tracks from Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak. He’ll seek to parlay that hype into a successful release of his new album, No Mercy, which is just about the wildest thing you’ll hear all year. Taking cues from Michael Jackson, Autechre and vintage Nintendo music, Justus can rock a party with a heady sound that’s an insomniac’s wet dream.
