The Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office have announced that Matthew T. Hendrix, 18, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Michael J. Tutera, Kansas City’s 41st homicide of the year.

According to the probable cause statement provided by the prosecutor’s office, KCPD officers found Tutera lying on the floor of his garage at 5300 Sunset yesterday, dead of a gunshot wound.

Tutera had called 911 late Wednesday night to report that he’d caught Hendrix entering his house, but he’d made Hendrix leave. He told the dispatcher that Hendrix was “casing the properties” and asked officers to check out the area.
