Mary Pilcher Cook respects sanctity of life, wants Kansas to profit from abortion

Kansas state Sen. Mary Pilcher Cook offered

an amendment last week that would tax abortions. The state of Kansas needs money, and lawmakers are looking for imaginative ways to get it, including a tax on soda.

“If you want less of something, you tax it,” Pilcher Cook reportedly

said.

Pilcher Cook has a point. But for someone whose campaign site says she’s all about “respecting the sanctity of human life and human dignity” and “protecting women from exploitation” but would end up profiting from it, it’s an odd position.

Pilcher Cook’s amendment failed 17-22.
