Marriott’s AC Hotel in Westport is now open

The former home of the Quarterage Hotel (and, more recently, the Q Hotel + Spa) today reopened as AC Hotel, a joint venture between Marriott and the Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan. It’s the second such hotel that Marriott has opened in the United States (the first was in New Orleans), and the result of its multimillion-dollar renovation is four floors and 123 rooms of sleek, vaguely European design with modern amenities meant to attract the millennial set (mobile check-in, complimentary Wi-Fi, multiple USB ports for phone charging, Bluetooth-enabled speakers in the rooms, an iced-coffee station).

The bar in the lobby is open to hotel guests as well as the general public, and features two wines on tap, a signature whiskey drink made from local distillery Dark Horse (also on tap), a specialty cocktail menu, and several canned craft beers. Sticking with the European theme, a few small plates are available. Corey Ringh, director of sales and marketing for the hotel, says that’s part of AC Hotel’s intention to become a natural part of the fabric of the Westport neighborhood.

“We’re hoping that we can be a place where people out in Westport — or people staying at the hotel — stop in for a drink, maybe have a small plate, move on,” Ringh says. “We’re not doing steaks. If you want a steak, we’ll send you out somewhere around Westport that serves a great steak.”
