Marisa MacKay fired from Christian dance studio for doing burlesque in her private time

Burlesque Downtown Underground‘s Marisa MacKay says she was given an ultimatum on Monday: Quit performing burlesque or be fired from her teaching job at a Christian dance studio. MacKay wasn’t about to give up burlesque.

“I chose my art,” MacKay says. “I can’t just drop this. This is my company. I’m performing nationally now. I’m slated to perform in New Orleans in September. I can’t just not do this anymore. I’ve built this up for four years.”
