Many pay tribute to punk Svengali Malcolm McLaren

Punk impressario Malcolm McLaren — famously the founder of SEX, the shop where so many of the early punks hung out, as well as the manager of the Sex Pistols — passed away from cancer yesterday. There have been many, many kinds words said about a man who’s been particularly savaged in quite a few memoirs over the years. John Lydon said of McLaren’s passing in a press release:
“For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you.”
Quite a turn-around from the savaging Lydon gave McLaren in his autobiography, No Irish No Blacks No Dogs (McLaren legally blocked Lydon from using the “Johnny Rotten” moniker, among other legal wranglings). You can find a slew of words in memory of McLaren at the Telegraph.
