Manhattan punks Jiffy Boy featured “Ex Post Facto”
If there were a song title that would describe that which we do here with the Throwback MP3 of the Week, it would be “Ex Post Facto,” from Manhattan punks Jiffy Boy. The song title means “after the fact” in Latin.
This version of the song is taken from the live compilation, The Manhattan Project, which came out in 1997. The comp features quite a few notable bands from the late ’90s, including Ruskabank, Podstar, and Back Porch Mary before any of them had much more than a cassette demo available. All ten tracks were recorded at Bomber’s Upstairs in Manhattan, KS, a bar which featured quite a few good shows for an out-of-the-way place like Manhattan. It’s gone, and lamented by the folks who knew it.
Jiffy Boy broke up, and some of the members went on to form Sense of Self, who were a little less in-your-face speedy punk rock, and more melodic, but no less intense. Guitarist for both bands, Jeremy Sturgell, can be found playing for Unknown Stuntman during their occasional appearances, even occasionally busting out another Jiffy Boy tune, “Red Dick.”
