Mane Event

Samson was KO’ed when his locks were shorn, but scissors seem to have had the opposite effect on the singularly named Godfrey. Sure, he’d already scored the eternally enviable gig warming up audiences for The Cosby Show, but it took more than luck to leap from Chicago’s famed All Jokes Aside Comedy Club to appearances on Comedy Central and every single I Love the Most Outrageous Moments Ever of the Week smarmfest VH1 can whip up. Onstage, he’s both relaxed and relentless, traits that served him equally well in Zoolander, Soul Plane and the Jerry Seinfeld documentary Comedian. Godfrey – sans that freaky shock of electrified worms he used to sport — headlines the Improv at the Majestic Theatre (7430 Northwest 87th Street) today through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with additional 9:45 p.m. shows Friday and Saturday, plus a 7 p.m. show on Sunday. Tickets are $15-$17; call 816-587-4500 for more information.
