Man shot at 61st and Jackson and more on Steven Bertling Jr.’s death

Couple of crime stories out there right now.

A 50-year-old man was shot last night following an argument with a group of people at 61st Street and Jackson Avenue, KMBC Channel 9 reports.

The man’s injuries were first said to be life-threatening, but he’s now in stable condition, The Kansas City Star reports.

Also, KSHB Channel 41 has a story on the death of Steven Bertling Jr., an Independence man who was attacked by five to six men while playing basketball with friends in a church parking lot and beaten to death last Saturday.

Steven had a lot to look forward to. He had plans to marry his fiancée, Carmen Garcia, next year in Hawaii. He also wanted to spend time with their eight month old daughter Anita.

An $11,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to the arrest of Bertling’s killer.
