Man charged in bacon, milk and money stick-up

David T. Witt, 48, was arrested on Monday for allegedly using a chef’s knife to stick-up a grocery store clerk and making off with over $100, a half-gallon of milk and a couple packages of bacon.

The clerk, who was uninjured, called the police and gave them a description and police were able to locate a man matching that description walking near the Pizza Hut at 3010 Van Brunt Boulevard.

According to the police report, when officers stopped the man and began to frisk him, he allegedly uttered, “I did it.” To which the officer reportedly responded, “You did what?”

“I was the one who robbed the store,” the man allegedly said.

Police reportedly confiscated $189 in cash and a Faberware brand chef’s knife.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Witt with robbery in the first-degree and armed criminal action.
