Man accused of murdering Emily Sander (Zoey Zane) testifies

​​​Israel Mireles, the man charged with the murder of Emily Sander, took the stand today, testifying that after he found Sander’s dead body in a motel bathroom he went on the run, afraid authorities would blame him.

During opening statements, Mireles’ attorney claimed that Sander was killed by another man who broke into the hotel room after a drug deal gone bad.

The Salina Journal reports that Mireles testified to returning to the motel room and seeing blood, then Sander’s body. He then fled the scene because he wanted to be with his family and girlfriend. He didn’t know why he didn’t call the police, or why he wrapped her body in a blanket and took it with him in the car.

“I was scared,” he reportedly said. “I figured the first person they’d blame would be me.”
