Man accused of drugging and photographing young girls
If the reports about James Phillip “Phil” Edwards are true, then I wouldn’t accept ice cream from the guy.
A federal grand jury indicted the 60-year-old Edwards yesterday on child pornography charges. Federal prosecutors allege that Edwards advertised child porn on the Internet May 20 and attempted to distribute child porn on the Internet on June 19. He’s also accused of possessing child porn.
That’s all bad but the report in today’s Kansas City Star is so much worse. The Star reports that Edwards allegedly used Ambien sleeping pills to drug young girls so he could photograph them. Investigators allegedly found photos of young girls in a computer file titled “Consuming the date rape drug,” a video of “three girls being given drinks and ice cream before they are shown apparently unconscious” and a file called “Phil’s kindergarten class ages 4-7” with photos of five girls sleeping.
Edwards allegedly told investigators that he didn’t see anything wrong with what he did, and in a videotaped statement admitted giving the sedative to “multiple minor girls” between the ages of 6 and 12, according to the Star.
“His view is that society places arbitrary lines (as in age restrictions) around sexual conduct, with which he doesn’t agree,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine Fincham wrote in the motion.
