Local Natives

It’s not often that we advocate a trip along the road that is Interstate 70. Stock up on gas, beer and beef jerky, reader: That time is now. Local Natives are coming to Mojo’s — a glorified wooden trailer — in Columbia. The band’s slightly avant-garde, melodic arrangements synthesize the Dirty Projectors’ swelling vocal harmonies, Fleet Foxes’ sing-along melodies and Grizzly Bear’s off-kilter instrumentation. In Gorilla Manor, the band’s debut, harmonies throb and fade, percussion clatters, and guitar lines waver and ripple away. Live, heart-thumping drums accompany Local Natives’ hair-raising falsetto vocals. It’s an intimate setting for a rising act; the band is playing sold-out shows in New York, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco and Austin. This show is bound to be worth more than just bragging rights.
