Local Looks

The West 18th Street Fashion Show has become an early summer tradition for the Crossroads crowd in the nine years since its inception. This year’s theme: “Summer in Space.” As always, the talent pool includes 18 designers, including two hometown women stirring up national buzz. In one of the most anticipated collections of the night, Ari Fish and Peggy Noland team up for a collaboration titled “By Birth.” “The clothes are a reaction to the feeling of total and utter freedom from fashion’s rules and people’s expectations,” explains Fish — a surprise to no one familiar with the duo’s personal lines of clothing, both of which are largely conceptual. “This may sound ridiculous, but anything can really be anything with the trickiness of the mind. Fashion sorcery — or shall I say fashion re-sorcery — is the theme to ‘By Birth.'” The stylin’ space strutting begins at dusk (around 8 p.m.) on West 18th Street between Wyandotte and Baltimore; see westeighteenthstreet.com for more information.
