Local Flavor

Parkville, that pretty, fast-growing hamlet on the Missouri River, has become a serious restaurant destination only in the past few years. It boasts an excellent French restaurant, Café des Amis, two great pizza joints, a dozen or so fine independently owned cafes, a wine bar, and the only restaurant in the metro that serves both fried chicken and Middle Eastern food. Twelve of the town’s dining venues are participating in tonight’s Taste of Parkville, held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Farmer’s Market Pavilion near English Landing Park in downtown Parkville. The event features tasting samples from each restaurant and is a fundraiser for this winter’s “Christmas on the River” celebration. Patrons get to taste, and vote for, the town’s best food. Tickets cost $25 at the door for adults and $10 for children ages 4-10. For more information, call 816-587-9998.
