Local Eats

Springtime is here again, and these days, eating local is as hip as the latest iPod. The Tuesday Lawrence Farmers Market is fertile ground for even the most uninitiated foodie. Now in its 32nd year, the market begins this season with a range of meat and veggie offerings. Market coordinator Mercedes Taylor-Puckett reminds folks to be aware of what’s in season. “It’s been so cold,” she says, “but there’ll be early greens and radishes.” This week’s pickings may be slim, but every booth boasts Kansas pride. “Everything sold is from the producer, raised by each vendor only,” Taylor-Puckett says. Individual tastes may vary, but nothing is as satisfying as knowing that your food wasn’t trucked across the globe to get onto your plate. The Tuesday market is held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Vermont between 10th and 11th streets. See lawrencefarmersmarket.com for more information.
