Local Band Mentioned in NY Mag

You’ll never guess which band. Probably because you haven’t heard of them. But if you ever needed proof that it pays to tour…

In an article subhedded “The Search for Good Bands on a Saturday Night,” a team of New York Magazine writers goes out on the town looking for rock action, and one of them comes across a band from our hole in the backwoods. Here’s the blurb.

SPIDERMUMS

Goodbye Blue Monday

1087 Broadway, Bushwick

Though Spidermums are from Kansas City and definitely sound-check the early-nineties “shoegazer” scene of alt-British rock, they still looked something like a young band from Bushwick, albeit with baggier jeans. The band crammed six musicians and an ungodly number of pedals onstage, filling the room with feedback that was sometimes discordant, often delightful—much like the teeming towers of kitschy trash and treasure that lined the venue.

Up for debate: clueless bumpkins or refreshing outsiders?

Faithful readers will remember that this blog ran a report a few weeks ago about how Spidermums’ drummer got arrested just before the band embarked on the tour that has now yielded this sweet little bulb of press fruit.

As to the closing question — clueless bumpkins or refreshing outsiders? Because, of course, anyone not based in Brooklyn and not clad in tight jeans, must be some kind of horse-toothed hick moron. Please. We rock. Go eat a pizza-pie’a, ya New York jerk.

Oh, how we go over and over the same things on the Wayward Blog.
