Local Artist Overthrow

The season of festivals is upon us. The warm weather manages to coax people from their shelters to bask in the scorching beams of live music. This weekend should be no exception when the Riot Room hosts its annual Local Artist Overthrow, a two-day mini-festival that highlights some of Kansas City’s best on-the-rise bands. The showcase kicks off Friday with ambient noise-rock outfit Brainbow and continues through Saturday — on the indoor and patio stages — with sets from more than 20 local bands, and it culminates with smooth-voiced electro-pop duo Parts of Speech on Saturday night. Highlights include sets from Maps for Travelers, Heroes + Villains, Minden, Continents, and Waiting for Signal. Both nights also feature patio dance parties, courtesy of DJs 2 Live Cruz and Sheppa. Tickets for the two days cost $15 (single-day passes are available for $10) — a great local bang for the buck — and are available through the Riot Room website or at the door.
