When life gives you lemons, traditionally, in the spirit of optimism, you make lemonade. On Saturday, October 20, artists opted for lyricism and camaraderie over sugar and zest at Lemonade Park.

LMNS is a musical festival that features both established and emerging Kansas City creatives. The event’s notable lineup includes Kye Colors, Jass Couch, Sharday Spinzz, Jace Camden, Dom Chronicles, Broderick Jones, and others. The event’s founder, A’sean, also graced the stage with a riveting performance highlighting addiction and melancholy. Though all of the featured performances varied in tone and genre, they shared an earnestness that could be felt throughout the show’s entirety.

This event was carefully curated. Seemingly unintentional details were actually small components of a cohesive and new music festival concept. Even the festival’s title—LMNS—was more than an abbreviation. True to the spirit of intersectionality and creativity, the name is an acronym for ‘loving memories never stop.’ Fresh fruit, dim lighting, and a host with an infectious personality, Joe Cornejo, complied to make an immersive experience with a modern ambiance.

A’sean spoke about the importance of intent in creating the concept for LMNS with cofounder Dom Chronicles.

“It represents what show culture is supposed to be. Music, in general, is supposed to be a person expressing and showcasing. The way that you have longevity in this is if you actually create moments and memories that stick with people forever,” says A’sean.

In addition to the musical selections, there were complimentary marijuana samples for attendees courtesy of Timeless, a sponsor and cannabis distributor. The creators of LMNS wanted to highlight the growing recreational weed culture in the city in light of its recent legalization.

“This is our first year with weed, and marijuana was something that we wanted to incorporate. These [marijuana] companies are super down to earth when it comes to connecting with creatives, so it was dope,” says A’sean.

This inaugural event allowed creatives to connect and indulge in passionate displays of artistry. A’sean does not plan to plateau and hopes to expand LMNS in subsequent events. Here’s what he says patrons have to look forward to in the near future.

“Just know next summer. And if they love this one, next year is going to be crazy. We will be dropping a lot of content, we had a bunch of different people capturing moments and videos. So everybody’s moments that they remember, their memories, that’s all going to be available soon,” A’sean says.
