LJ finds feet, runs 107 yards as a Bengal
What is it with former Kansas City pro sports players putting up great numbers as soon as they sign with other teams?
In his second game since being released by the Chiefs and signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, Larry
Johnson ran for 107 yards in the
Bengals’ 16-7 win over the Browns. Johnson averaged 4.9 yards per carry on Sunday (he averaged 2.9 yards as a Chief). So much for LJ being “fourth string.”
Johnson’s talents re-emerged as soon as he tore off his KC jersey, following in the grand tradition set forth by athletes like Carlos Beltran (former Royal, traded to Houston, currently with the Mets), Johnny Damon (former Royal, traded to the A’s, currently a Yankee) and Jared Allen (former Chief, current Viking and leading the NFL in sacks — though he played well here, too).
In other former-Chiefs news, Amani Toomer, the veteran New York Giants wide receiver who signed on with the Chiefs only to be cut by the team after one month, told FoxSports.com that playing in Kansas City “felt like it wasn’t pro football to me.”
At this stage of his career, Toomer probably doesn’t know what pro football looks like anymore. Meanwhile, LJ is starting to remember.
