Lights and Sound

In the summer, we get fireworks. When the air cools and the winds grow harsh, we get indoor laser-light shows. It’s all pretty much the same with eye-melting explosions and arcs of color — in short, a badass way to either kick off a night or wrap it up. The party planners behind Essence of Color opted for the former. The laser lights at 7 p.m. lead into a long night of havoc for attendees’ rods and cones at the Beaumont Club (4050 Pennsylvania, 816-561-2560). Expect the night to live up to its name in art created on the spot by a host of invited artists, in the bold outfits exhibited in two fashion shows, and on the flesh of models painted to glow under black lights. Essence of Color promises to be so visually stimulating, organizers want you to bring your camera; photo passes cost $25. Plus, no fewer than seven jazz musicians and DJs are scheduled to add an aural element to the evening. General admission costs $10. Or throw down a cool $100 for VIP status and access to a 5 p.m. preparty. For more info, see farcu.org.
