Lick It

According to World Bank data, girls and women ages 15-44 are more at risk for rape and domestic violence than for cancer or car accidents, and the cost of intimate-partner violence in the United States exceeds $5.8 billion a year in direct medical and health-care services and productivity losses. Locally, the UMKC Women’s Center offers support services, referrals and advocacy. Support the cause globally through the center’s 2011 V-Day campaign and visit information tables from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the UMKC Student Union (5100 Cherry, 816-235-5555). Volunteers will be selling V-Day buttons, bags and T-shirts to raise awareness and funds. For those who prefer to support causes by eating something creamy and luscious, chocolate vaginas on sticks are available for $2. Be a vagina warrior and help end violence against women. No one will think you’re a pussy with those kinds of pops.— Berry Anderson
