Feature: “Children Left Behind,” July 10

I am an audiologist in the Kansas City area who has just started working with children with auditory processing disorders. In oversimplified lay terms, it is dyslexia of hearing, and there is a high degree of comorbidity with autism. I get a little bit of flack within my own profession for helping these kids out with a very invisible, seemingly impossible problem. It is a tough assignment to advocate for these children with small voices, but Peter Rugg’s article and the parents he presents in it are some of the best examples for outstanding advocacy I have seen in the Midwest.

Thank you for doing your part to help the children of Kansas City. Bravo!

I wanted to thank the editors of The Pitch for having the courage to print a story regarding the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. You interviewed both sides — parents and district staff — and made your own determinations based on the evidence. This story of how the children are being harmed needs to be told, or more and more children will be affected.
