Let the Eagle Soar
Shark Week, an annual gala dedicated to raising shark awareness, is all well and good for our toothy friends the sharks. But what about the eagles? Shouldn’t there also be some kind of shark week for America’s magnificent airborne raptors? Clay County’s parks department and the Missouri Department of Conservation have banded together with the notoriously pro-eagle Army Corps of Engineers for Smithville Lake Eagle Days today and Sunday at the Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Little Platte Park (18212 Golf Course Road, Smithville). Among the attractions: live eagle programs, information booths, videos, and activities that include spotting eagles in the wild. If you’re lucky, you might see America’s national bird feasting on carrion or stealing food from other birds, little-known habits of bald eagles that our powdered-wig-wearing forefathers didn’t want you to know about.
