Legendary Shack Shakers

Legendary might be something of an overstatement, seeing as how the Legendary Shack Shakers have been playing together only since 2001, but word on the street suggests that someday that particular adjective will indeed be apt. The Nashville Scene deemed Colonel J.D. Wilkes the city’s best frontman in 2002, and both Wilkes and guitarist Joe Buck have bonded with a royal heir, having played with Hank Williams III’s band. From self-releasing its debut album, Cockadoodledon’t (Bloodshot recently reissued it), to playing its blues/bluegrass-fueled punkabilly at a clip that comes like a swift kick in the ass, the band boasts a strong DIY spirit. Also, Wilkes has been known to assault people in close proximity to the stage, depant himself, light himself on fire and demonstrate his nun-chucks prowess during sets. Keeping all that in mind, the headache the morning after these cats are through with you will likely constitute legend as well.
