North Face employees are trained in the same legally mandated workplace safety guidelines as other public-facing custome-service employees. But as a condition of employment with the outdoor-gear retailer, they’re also required to perform a monthly shift of environmental community service.”We actually work with the Sierra Club once a month with trail maintenance and cleanup. But for Earth Day, we’re trying to get other businesses involved,” says Paul Schultz, assistant manager at the Plaza store. In observation of this year’s Earth Day, North Face and the Thomas Hart Benton Chapter of the Sierra Club are teaming up with volunteers for trail maintenance and cleanup of the Hidden Valley Natural Area.”Lattéland is helping. It’s kind of a new thing — the first trail maintenance was last month. We’re trying to move toward a more sustainable environment,” Schultz says. If you’d like to volunteer to join the group, sign up at North Face at 312 West 47th Street, or call 816-756-0300.
