Lawrence groups want to protect right to discriminate against those ‘choosing LGBT lifestyle’

Some folks in Lawrence would like it to remain legal to discriminate against people based on their gender identity, thank you very much. That was the message sent loud and clear Wednesday night in a Lawrence church during a discussion over adding gender identity to a city ordinance barring discrimination.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that groups, including the Alliance Defense Fund, met to voice opposition to expanding the ordinance, which already includes sexual orientation. Somewhat surprisingly, those railing against the proposal are using good old-fashioned being gay or transgender ain’t right rhetoric to make their points as opposed to nuanced political arguments.
