lawrence farmers’ market

Meal planning is so 2009. Instead, grab a few reusable shopping bags and find ingredients for breakfast, lunch and dinner from the more than 100 vendors at the Farmers’ Market in downtown Lawrence. Now in its 34th year, the market has expanded to three days a week — the Saturday Market (7-11 a.m., between Eighth and Ninth streets and between New Hampshire and Rhode Island), the Tuesday Market (4-6 p.m., on Vermont between 10th and 11th streets) and the Thursday Market (4-6 p.m., Sixth Street and Wakarusa). Strollers and stoners abound, weaving like the bees that make the honey for Anthony’s Beehive lip balm and honey straws. Don’t just shop; eat. At the top of the list are the all-beef kosher hot dogs from Sundog’s Craig Nowatzke — the closest you’ll come to a Chicago-style hot dog in these parts. Not a meat lover? No problem. Nowatzke stocks vegetarian bratwurst in his steamer. For more information, see lawrencefarmersmarket.com.— Jonathan Bender
