Latest rape continues KU’s tradition of academics, athletics and sexual assault

Early Wednesday morning, a University of Kansas student was raped in an on-campus parking lot. There’s a lot of disgust and anger being expressed, but the one emotion that none of the students seem to be feeling is shock.

“I’m not surprised,” KU student Rachel Thomas told KCTV5. “This isn’t a safe part of town.”

Thomas likely wasn’t surprised because over the last decade there have been more than a dozen sexual assaults in Lawrence and Manhattan. Worse, there’s reason to believe many of the crimes were committed by the same person.
