Land Art

Having made the film-festival circuit from Honolulu to the Jersey Shore (it’s true — the Jersey Shore has a film festival), the award-winning indie flick Earthwork finally gets a night in Lawrence, the city where some of it was shot. Based on the life of Kansas crop artist Stan Herd, the movie stars John Hawkes and focuses on the artist’s 1994 commission by Donald Trump to construct a massive environmental sculpture in New York City. See the local debut at 8 p.m. for $10.50. The film rolls again Saturday at the same time, but tickets to that screening cost $50 because the event includes a Q&A with director Chris Ordal and a cocktail reception. Both screenings are at the Lawrence Arts Center (940 New Hampshire in Lawrence, 785-843-2787). See lawrenceartscenter.org. — Gavon Laessig
