Lack of a Big 12 schedule creates bridezillas

Mizzou’s divorce from the Big 12 is causing wedding-day blues for Jayhawk fans. The New York Times discovered that since the Big 12 football schedule hasn’t been released to the public, engaged couples planning fall weddings are having a hard time finding venues and hotels for their nuptials.

The Times reports that hotels and gathering spaces in Big 12 cities won’t book dates for weddings until they know which weekends will have home games. Consider the plight of Brian Frederick, 37, and Carolyn Hoef, 31. The couple wants to get hitched in Lawrence at a chapel on the KU campus and hold the reception in the alumni center. But the school won’t work with the couple until the football schedule is settled. Hoef told the paper, “I never thought my wedding would be so influenced by a football schedule. I’m not even a football fan.”

It’s strange, however, that event spaces and hotels would be worried about being overbooked on Rock Chalk Saturdays. After all, KU tried to shill tickets on Groupon last year for 62 percent off.
