Kuties, Crashes, and the Construction of I-70: Cool KC Photos From John Switzer’s Estate Sale

Yesterday, making the rounds — a Crap

Archivist must — I came across a rich trove of local history: the

photo archives of John Switzer, a former Star photographer and

reporter.

Switzer’s collection is priced to move. I mean that

literally — he’s selling his Prairie Village home and moving to a

smaller place.

I made off with six 8X10s at two bucks a pop,

and there were stacks of interesting shots remaining when I left.

(The sale runs through Saturday at 4910 W. 69th Terrace in Prairie Village.) Switzer’s collection includes news shots, impressive urban

landscapes, some arty experiments, and lots of random life captured

with a practiced eye.

Here’s the construction of I-70.

More great shots after the jump.
