KU student president candidate’s apartment searched, guns taken

Lawrence police executed a search warrant Monday at the apartment of University of Kansas student body president candidate Tutu Lee, the Lawrence Journal-World reported today. The Journal-World hints that it might have something to do with this campaign video, which shows Lee and another guy shooting guns and Lee saying he’s running “to get his girlfriend back.”

This one’s called “Free State Campaign Red Band Trailer.”

Here’s another video of Lee firing his gun called “Stroll’n’shoot.”

The police confiscated “guns, clothing and lawn chairs” seen in the videos, Lee told the Journal-World. Lee said the girlfriend comment was a joke. “We did not intend for it to be threatening at all,” Lee said.

But the Journal-World says a female KU student filed for a temporary restraining order against Lee on Wednesday.

The police wouldn’t elaborate on their investigation, other than saying that a student filed a report on February 11. Lee is lawyering up.

Someone claiming to be Lee has been posting comments on a story on the University Daily Kansan‘s Web site, including what he says is the contents of the warrant.

The student senate elections are this coming Wednesday and Thursday. Lee certainly raised his profile, but it doesn’t sound like his girlfriend’s coming back.
