KU football tries to Groupon its tickets away

  • Insert Jayhawks football tickets here.

How bad in is KU’s football team? Oh, they’re bad. They’ve lost their last six games by an average of 34 points. They allowed Oklahoma State to score 10 — 10! — touchdowns on them. Texas blanked them 43-0 last week. But no humiliation on the field this season has approached the latest indignity that the Jayhawks are enduring at the hands of their marketing team: selling tickets for the November 12 game against Baylor on Groupon for 62 percent off. Making matters worse, with two and a half days left on the deal for a $25 ticket that normally costs $65 a pathetically measly five people have signed up for the deal, well short of the 50 needed. Ouch.

It’s almost impossible to believe that this was once a program involved in a $2 million ticket scandal. Of course, we Mizzou fans are enjoying the KU flameout. But we probably won’t feel like laughing much in a year or two if/when Louisiana State and Alabama are taking turns using Tigers as the new SEC punching bag. Then we’ll just commiserate with Vanderbilt fans.
