Kinch

Even as Arizona spirals into a mess following passage of its shady immigration legislation, Phoenix trio Kinch keeps pumping out summertime indie jams, delivering jaunty, piano-driven songs with a lighthearted, energetic lilt. In a world where young bands have a hard time breaking out, Kinch has subverted the accepted “buy our CD” method by offering a full-length and three EPs as free downloads. Those who feel guilty about taking the music for free can donate to the band through its website — or pay $100 to write and record a personal song. Meanwhile, Kinch has built up a catalog of tunes so catchy and upbeat that even the ACLU might set aside its annoyance with Arizona for a minute.
