Killa City: Three dead after weekend shootings

The early hours of Saturday morning started a bloody day in Kansas City. A 17-year-old high school basketball player was gunned down, a woman was found shot to death in a SUV and a man was fatally shot in a park in Independence.

Bishop Hogan’s Darreon Murray was with four people wounded in a shooting on Interstate 70 near Van Brunt Boulevard exit around 1:30 a.m. after leaving a post-game party, Fox 4 reported. Murray died at the scene. “Two others were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries,” KSHB Channel 41 reported. “The fourth victim was in stable condition.”

At around 3 a.m., Kansas City Police also found a woman shot to death inside an SUV at 5406 Norton Avenue, KSHB reported. Not a lot of details on this shooting floating around.

At 2:42 a.m., Independence Police responded to a shots fired call around Benton Park. At least two people were shot after an altercation between two groups of young men. One person died. The other person’s injury wasn’t life threatening.

Finally, two men were shot in a Blue Springs altercation at the Chapel Ridge Apartments, 432 S.W. Moreland School Road, around 3:15 a.m., KSHB reported. A woman called the police around 3 a.m., and the dispatcher overheard a man say, “I’m shot.” Police arrived and witnessed a 30-year-old man chasing his ex-girlfriend from the apartment building. The man allegedly pulled a weapon out as he approached the officers, who shot the man several times. The suspect and the woman’s new boyfriend were taken to hospitals to be treated for their injuries.
