Killa City: Person of interest in Fairway killing found at a California hotel

The law finally caught up with a man suspected of shooting and killing his wife Monday in Fairway, Kansas.

The Los Angeles Times reports that authorities spotted Franklin L. Grammer Jr’s pick-up truck in the parking lot of an Econo Lodge in Gorman, California, Thursday morning.

It was the beginning of what turned into an eight-hour standoff between Grammer and a Los Angeles County sheriff’s special weapons team. The standoff finally ended around 12:30 p.m. when Grammer hung up on negotiators and wouldn’t answer repeated calls.

Tear gas was fired in the room, and officers “found Grammer in bed suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body.” A pistol was also found in the room.

Grammer was flown to a hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

Fairway police say Grammer is a person of interest in the death his wife, Betty Grammer, who was fatally shot Monday.

Betty Grammer’s death is Fairway’s first homicide in five years.
