Killa City: KCMO homicide No. 73, Carleton Temple found dead in wrecked car at 67th and Monroe
A two car collision led Kansas City police to the city’s 73rd homicide. Officers patrolling 67th and Monroe found 26-year-old Carleton Temple, of KCMO, suffering from a gunshot wound inside a wrecked car around 4:33 a.m. Temple was pronounced dead at the scene.
The weekend bloodshed started Friday night with a double shooting in the 5400 block of Highland. A man in his 30s and a toddler (2- to 3-year-old girl) were shot in a drive-by. The man’s injuries were not life threatening and “he did not want to prosecute,” police said. The toddler’s injuries were considered life threatening.
Witnesses told police that a dark colored car drove by the residence and fired into a group of about 40 people in a front yard. Police haven’t given an update on the toddler’s condition.
Early Saturday morning, a 17-year-old man fired shots at two police officers in a park at 67th and Paseo. Police say they were investigating a “suspicious person” call around 2:12 a.m. when they encountered the teen and a chase ensued. The teenager pointed a gun at the in the 1800 block of East 67th Terrace, and they shot the teen to disable him. The teenager was taken to a local hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. No update on his condition has been given.
