Killa City: Felix D. Rodriquez charged with killing Shirleen Brown
We now know the victim of last night’s homicide victim and suspect. Court records accuse 61-year-old Felix D. Rodriquez of killing Shirleen Brown. Jackson County prosecutors charged Rodriquez this afternoon with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Brown.
According to the probable cause statement, Rodriquez told police “I shot my girlfriend” when they arrived at the scene — Admiral and Tracy — Monday evening.
A witness — who Brown believed Rodriquez was putting the moves on — told police that Rodriquez and Brown argued and then started fist fighting. Brown allegedly hit Rodriquez in the head with a “wooden object,” so Rodriquez reached in Brown’s purse and pulled out a revolver and acted like he was going to smack her with it. He didn’t. He put it back in the purse, and they hit each other some more. Brown allegedly grabbed a brick, but Rodriquez hit her in the face. Brown hit him back. Then Rodriquez went for the gun again and allegedly shot Brown several times.
A second witness told police that Brown dared Rodriquez to shoot her during the fight. After Rodriquez shot her, he tried to resuscitate her, the second witness said.
Brown died at a local hospital.
Earlier today, Rodriquez spoke with detectives and allegedly admitted shooting Brown several times.
Brown is Kansas City’s 82nd homicide victim.
