Killa City: Elbert J. Holly charged with killing Montague K. Ashline

A palm print and a cell phone call led police to make an arrest in the death of Montague K. Ashline, who was fatally shot near 36th and Main back in June.
Jackson County prosecutors charged 45-year-old Elbert J. Holly today with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
Police found Ashline suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest near 10 W. 36th Street around 12:13 a.m. on June 24. Ashline was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court records say a palm print on the glass of the lobby area was
traced back to 36-year-old Paul McDaniel, who told police his version of what happened the night of Ashline’s death.
According to court documents, McDaniel told detectives on Tuesday that he,
Holly and 33-year-old Diamond Blair were planning “a lick” (a robbery). The three waited at the Alps apartment complex when
Ashline rolled up, parked and went inside the apartment. When Ashline returned to his vehicle, Blair ran up to him with a .38 revolver and ordered him to
stop. Holly and McDaniel ran up behind Ashline to stop him from
running.
Ashline put his hands in the air and said he didn’t have anything, but
Blair shot Ashline, McDaniel told police. The bullet went through
Ashline and struck McDaniel in his left arm. Blair ran, and Holly tried
to help McDaniel.
