Kevin Devine

You were always cute/But goddamn, you got hot. So sang Kevin Devine on his 2003 indie release, Make the Clocks Move, a charming collection that ditched the emo trappings of his former band, the Miracle of 86, in favor of cheery bedroom pop. The lyric aptly describes Devine’s brief partnership with Capitol Records, which merged with Virgin shortly after releasing his glistening, Rob Schnapf-produced Put Your Ghosts to Rest LP. Left to his own devices, Devine sounds ghost-free and happy, unveiling a series of new songs on MySpace and hitting the road with his Goddamn Band (which isn’t nearly as ornery as it sounds).
