KCPD will tell bar patrons in Waldo their BAC this Friday

  • KCPD will breathlyze you in Waldo on Friday.

If you’re sidling up to a bar in Waldo this Friday night, you could stumble away with a little bit of knowledge about your drinking limits, too. The Kansas City Police Department will be hanging around the bars near 75th and Wornall from 7 to 11 p.m. with breathalyzers, to give drinkers an idea of their drinking limits.

KCPD’s press release from this morning says the “Know Your Limits” program is based on one started in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2009. KCPD will have six officers with breathalyzers in the area for interested bar patrons. “Some people think they can handle liquor better than they actually can,” Captain Bob Zimmerman said in the release. Duh.

And don’t be shy. KCPD insists that nobody, no matter how high their blood alcohol content is, will be ticketed for their breathalyzer results. “The point is to let people know what their limits are by voluntarily blowing into the tubes with no repercussions,” Zimmerman said. Appropriately, the officers will be handing our fliers with cab phone numbers.
