KC Tribe going to league championship

People haven’t been this excited about a tribe since Major League II.

On Saturday, the Kansas City Tribe women’s tackle football team tore the faces off the Chicago Force in a 42-16 rout that Tribe co-founder, general manager, tight end and outside linebacker Mindy White says was a lot closer than the score reveals. The Tribe now takes on the Washington, DC, Divas for the league championship on July 25 in Austin.

The women of the Force, confident of their victory, brought champagne bottles onto the sidelines — that kind of audacity belongs in a WWE match, ladies. At the half, the Tribe was down 6-7. Then they reminded themselves to do something we first heard about in former Pitch writer Jen Chen’s story: “Nut up, bitches.”

With support from 1,000 fans, the Tribe had some defensive plays and special teams to solidify the beat-down in the the last quarter. The Force abandoned those bottles of bubb.

For the championships, the DC Divas look big and tough, White says, but she’s OK with being the underdog. “We continue to get better each game and we’re really comfortable with our bread and butter, which is the long ball,” she says.
